Shona Stewart, PhD

Director of Biomedical Research and Development

Dr. Stewart is an analytical chemist with a background in spectroscopy. She has extensive experience in techniques including Raman, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and for over 15 years has been employing hyperspectral imaging technologies to address unmet clinical needs.

In 2002, she joined the Biomedical R&D team at ChemImage and has risen to her current role of Director.  Dr. Stewart manages ChemImage’s Biomedical R&D team, an integral functional group in the Life Sciences Line of Business. As a senior scientist, she is also the Test Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead on several projects and product development efforts.

Her research interests are in the biomedicine sector, specifically in the development of technologies which will augment clinician performance and improve patient outcomes.
She has presented at several conferences, and authored a number of publications and patents on topics ranging from chemical imaging technology to spectroscopic methodologies for enhancing disease diagnosis.

She holds a BS and PhD from the Queensland University of Technology, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan.
