Dr. Matthew P. Nelson
Chief Technical Officer

Dr. Nelson, an analytical chemist with a background in molecular spectroscopy, leads spectroscopy and imaging technology initiatives at ChemImage. As Chief Technology Officer and a member of the Executive Management Team, he is responsible for management oversight of the R&D and Hardware Engineering technical functional areas and development of strategic technologies and associated Intellectual Property aligned with ChemImage Product and Technology.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry from Frostburg State University and earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He joined ChemImage as a Senior Scientist in 1999 after distinguished work as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University (see U.S. Patent number 6,198,531).

Having authored/co-authored over 50 publications and over 60 patents for landmark developments during his tenure at ChemImage, Dr. Nelson continually provides direction and guidance for hardware and software improvements to ChemImage products while mentoring and developing the next generation of analytical scientists.

Dr. Nelson serves as the Raman Imaging Task Force Chair for ASTM Subcommittee E13.10 on Molecular Spectroscopic Optical Imaging.  

Dr. Nelson enjoys playing musical instruments including drums and guitar, and spending time with his family.
